Gongwer News Service Michigan is the premier independent source for news and information on Michigan politics. Gongwer's services, including this app, contain independently gathered information from our team of journalists. The app does not represent a government entity. Information from the government is limited to election results, which Gongwer obtains from the Michigan Secretary of State on its publicly available website. All other information comes from non-government sources like candidate websites, candidate social media accounts and Gongwer staff expertise and knowledge. This app does not facilitate government services.

Named for its founder, Charles Gongwer, the company has operated in Michigan since 1961.

The Gongwer Michigan Elections app provides voters, political junkies and other interested parties with the best product available to stay on top of this year's elections for state and federal office in Michigan.

Upon opening the app, users can choose whether to review information about the primary election, when the Democratic and Republican voters nominate their party's candidates, or the General Election. Up until the primary, users will mainly want to select the Primary option. Most information for the General Election screens will upload after the primary. Users can then select their race of interest. Drop-down menus will appear.

Selecting Candidates for statewide offices will take users to the names of the candidates for that office with links to a wealth of information about each candidate: biographical details, links to their social media accounts and websites, contact tools and endorsements, links to their campaign finance reports and more. Selecting Candidates for U.S. House, Michigan Senate or Michigan House will bring up buttons for each district for those offices. Pick the district of interest to find the same trove of information mentioned above or hit "Open/Close All" to see all districts.

Maybe you just want to review which races Gongwer considers key ones, the competitive races that are up for grabs. Under U.S. House, Michigan Senate and Michigan House, just pick Key Races to filter out the districts that are not competitive.

Looking for a specific candidate and don't want to comb through all the districts? Use the Search tab, always available at the bottom of the app.

Build your own list of races that matter to you with our Favorites feature.

Gongwer covers races for state and federal office more closely than any other news source. So take advantage of our insight by selecting Analysis once you pick the office to review.

Picking the option for U.S. House, Michigan Senate or Michigan House will bring up a chart allowing you to select which districts we have ranked strongly favoring the Republican or Democrat, likely for the Republican or Democrat, leaning to the Republican or Democrat, or a toss-up. Pick the district of interest for our current take on that race. Gongwer will update these analyses throughout the campaign. Or choose Overall Analysis for Gongwer's read on which party has the advantage in the race for control of the chamber.

Gongwer will continue updating the app. As more candidates file, the app will update. As organizations issue new endorsements, the app will update. As the state of play in the races changes, Gongwer will update its analysis.

On the nights of the primary and the general election, Gongwer will update the app with results as they arrive, making the Gongwer election app the perfect portable election night resource.

A push notifications feature will alert you when new information has been uploaded as well as provide occasional news. Use the alerts archive, called Latest Alerts on the main screen, so you won't miss anything.
